Bench Blast and a Little Magic

Bench Blast: Brighton Beach. I’ve just finished a session with a client further up the beach, but hey, since I’m here, why not do a mini-session to consolidate my glute-blasting session of the other day. I haven’t got a plan. My legs are still feeling the effects of Wednesday’s workouts combined with yesterday morning’s swim session followed by kickboxing (so much for taking a day off lol). I’m keeping to a gentle Walk 60 secs/Jog 60 secs with no intention of...

PARAS’ 10 – THE POSITIVITY SWITCH

PARAS’ 10 Colchester – 21 October 2012 – P-Company Challenge … 10 miles in military kit with 35lb bergen Been, done it, got the tee-shirt (literally). Actually I’ve now ended up with THREE tee-shirts – bit of an overload. One, I bought for training, the second arrived courtesy of paracharity.org along with a collection box … and the third one has a big ‘FINISHER’ emblazoned on the front. Well, one can never have too many tee-shirts, I suppose. Erm … you’ll notice there’s...

Pain, Frustration, Physio, Decisions

Tuesday training Oh, hellooooooooooooooooo negativity! Grrrrr it’s not often I sink under the pressure of negative thoughts but by the end of today’s planned 8 mile walk – first time with 35 lb Bergen – I’m feeling pretty beaten.  I even found myself admitting that I don’t think I’m going to be able to do this! That didn’t last for long, of course. I’m not one to be kept down for long – but I’ve had to reassess. Yes, I will do this damned challenge and I WILL cross the finish line – just not in...

Paras 10 training begins

And so it begins … training for the Para’s 10 Challenge on 21 October. Who’s stupid idea was it to do this, I ask you (although that wasn’t a question, really)! Yes, I admit the prospect of training for a ten-mile race was rather appealing – a bit of a break from distance running which my head adores but my body not so much. And the prospect of meeting up with some fellow runners from the London to Brighton challenge also sounded like fun. But the button was right there in front of me on the entry...

Naughty magic!

It was tough getting up this morning. The trouble with being really careful with one’s nutrition and training plentifully (is that a word???), is that as soon as one is invited for dinner the result is a complete and utter MESS!! Or is it?? It was ba-a-a-a-a-a-d!! I mean, I was full from the ‘nibbles’. The meal hadn’t even started!! Not good, eh? But, I have a rule that’s a very personal one – not one that would particularly suit anybody else. I don’t...

Day SEVEN – THE END!

It’s here. Day SEVEN. End of my mini nunchuck experiment. Time for assessment ………….. Now – first of all, kindly note that this is a SELF-assessment! Unfortunately, this is the way it’s going to stay for now. I know, I know, but even after 3000+ attempts at improvement …. I’m ashamed to say my nunchuck skills are as yet unfit for public viewing! *cue sobbing* But then again ………… please please PLEASE remember that when you DO see my horrendously insulting nunchucking (with apologies to anyone who...

DAY SIX of my journey second to nun…chuck!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm! Well, before I go any further can I first please apologise to Caitriona for laughing at her nunchuck skills! I mean, really – me? Laughing at somebody else’s nunchucking??? BWAHAHAHAHA! OK! Absurd. I admit it. And besides, it was the first time she’d held them, let alone tried to swing them. Sadly, although it pains me to say …. My current skills after ALL this practising – are not much better than hers! BUT …………… forever onwards, right? So … today’s plan: Same old, same old PLUS...

DAY FIVE of my journey second to nun…chuck

Loving it, loving it, loving it … I have a new friends. Well, sort of. No, we’re not going to move in together and – actually, I think the pair of them are quite bossy and don’t do things quite the way I like things to be done – but we get along. We’ve grown to tolerate each other to some extent and that will do just fine. I’m working out a way to blackmail them into good behaviour during my next karate grading, whenever that might be. I’m not sure they’re liking the idea of blackmail – I’m going...

DAY FOUR of my journey second to nun…chuck

While learning her nunchaku kata, She sobbed when I asked ‘What’s the matta?’ ‘My head’s been nunchucked And my elbow is ****ed, Can’t do it, I quit and that’s thatta!’ And that kinda sorta sums up my progress to date! Just kidding – about the quitting bit at least. I don’t care how much you laugh at me, giggle, snigger and snort. I will NOT give up. My mantra for this week has now changed. I WILL learn this kata, I WILL learn this kata, I WILL learn this kata … Until I’m laughed out of the...

DAY THREE of my journey second to nun…chuck

How many nuns would a nunchuck chuck if a nunchuck could chuck nuns? It’s Day Three! The goal?  Strike 1 x 500 and Strike 2 x 100.  Yesterday I discovered a new meaning to the term ‘Three strikes and you’re out!’ as I attempted to go for KO to round off my nunchuck ‘spinning’ technique. Result? I’m leaving Strike 3 for another day. It’s a short summary today because – you’re not going to believe this – things actually went quite smoothly. Circumstances forced me to find a spot indoors to practice...
